Tablet dashboard case study
INTRODUCTION
A dashboard for restaurants to manage their tables as well as receive real time information about staff, order status and more.
This case study was part of a UI learning exercise during which I researched, designed and illustrated the app and logo while creating the optimal experience for its users.
THE CHALLENGE
Restaurants and their staff today are using dashboards to manage their tables and every aspect of their role, but these dashboards aren't intuitive or simple to use and require a lot of learning.
MY SOLUTION
Create a dashboard with clean simple design that is easy to navigate and understand. Adding features that other dashboards lacked and to make them accessible.
THE PROCESS
I started this process by searching existing dashboards restaurants use and writing down everything that needs to be removed and what can stay. For example, certain features like overview of the entire restaurant were not common, but are necessary.
I worked with a lean canvas to map out the ideas and components, adding what I found from looking at other dashboards.
After getting the ideas and components I wanted to add mapped out, I built the wireframes.
DESIGN LANGUAGE
Once the wireframe was done, I went on to creating the design language of the app.
I researched color palettes that work and are associated in the industry, while creating a sleek and minimalistic look that will be accessible.

COMPONENTS
Each component was given a role reflected by its color from the palette. The orange call-to-action brightens the screen and attracts the eyes while the neutral grays outline each section of the restaurant overview. A calming blue was added to seats to indicate they are used.
